Developing housing, building futures and profit for purpose

Women’s Property Initiatives works with partners within the private, public and non-government sectors to identify and develop innovative ways of improving access to long-term affordable housing for disadvantaged women and their children.

WPI focuses on women and their children because they are the greatest in need of safe and affordable housing.  It also recognises that women from culturally diverse backgrounds, women who have experienced sexual abuse and/or domestic violence and women leaving the correctional system require a housing service that is sensitive to their needs.

85% of families seeking help through the government’s Supported Accommodation Assistance Program are single mothers and almost 90% of single headed households are women with children.  The number of young single women and older single women seeking assistance from housing support agencies is also increasing.

A recent innovation of WPI has been to establish a ‘for profit’ real estate agency, Property Initiatives Real Estate, to create a revenue to stream to WPI to build more housing for women and children in need. All of the company profits from the real estate agency must be directed to WPI.

Jeanette has been the CEO of WPI since 2009.  She has a Bachelor of Behavioural Science and a Graduate Diploma in Business Management.  Jeanette also has extensive experience across the housing sector, from running refuges and local housing groups to management roles in government departments.

Kristie is the Officer in Effective Control and Business Development Manager of Property Initiatives Real Estate.
