Victoria Police Legacy

Victoria Police Legacy supports members of the police family who have lost partners who are serving, who have resigned after 25 years’ service or retired sworn members of Victoria Police, Protective Services Officers or recruits in training. They also support serving or retired sworn members and Protective Services Officers who have lost partners.

Police Legacy undertakes many events throughout the year to recognise the bravery and contributions of the police family.

Lex de Man AFSM, commenced at VPL in June 2016.  He has a strong background and experience within the emergency management sector, having come to VPL following 20 years’ service in executive roles at the Country Fire Authority. His service at the CFA was preceded by 18 years’ policing experience as a sworn member of Victoria Police in both the uniform and as a detective in specialist criminal investigation areas.

Most notably, over a period of nearly 5 years, he led the investigation into allegations of the theft of children at birth and the administering of children with the drug LSD by a Melbourne based religious cult which saw him work for a number of months with the Metropolitan Police in the UK and the FBI in the USA. Lex gained his Police Inspector qualifications at the Commissioned Officer’s Course, Royal New Zealand Police College, Wellington, prior to his appointment to the CFA.

His experience in the area of governance extends to previous roles in local government, having been a mayor and local councillor for 5 years.

Lex’s qualifications include being awarded an MBA from La Trobe University. He has been recognised at the national level having been awarded the Australian Fire Service Medal (AFSM) in the 2011 Australia Day Honours for the leadership he displayed and support he provided to CFA members during the devastating 2009 Victorian Black Saturday fires.
