“Safeguarding Your Critical Digital Assets”

Cyber crime is now one of the risks every organisation must manage. While there hasn’t been a test case in Australia yet, there is a general view that companies that fail to take appropriate action to ensure that sensitive information is properly secured will expose their directors and officers to severe penalties.

However directors and executive managers are often in unfamiliar territory when it comes to managing cyber risks. A successful cyber attack can be cripplingly expensive in both financial and reputation terms.

Craig will address how companies can gain a better understanding of their digital assets and address their risk profiles. Having this understanding can assist in developing effective cyber risk strategies.

Craig is a registered trade mark attorney and routinely advises and represents private and public sector clients in relation to the registration, commercialisation and enforcement of their intellectual property. He also advises and represents clients on the procurement of information technology goods and services. Craig has expertise in competition and consumer protection law, and routinely advises clients in relation to the privacy of personal.

ALMONER'S CORNER

  • Dick Mitchell: Dick had a successful operation on his Achilles tendon last Wednesday night, however, he became unwell over the weekend and was admitted to Intensive care earlier this week to resolve some renal failure. He has been treated well and, according to reports, he was feeling a lot better today [Wednesday]. As such, he may not be able to have any visitors until maybe Saturday. I suggest talking to Trish before visiting.
  • Roy Garrett: Roy is now home from hospital and ”looking forward” to rehabilitation over the next few weeks.

THE ART OF THE $M ART SHOW

Camberwell RC has perfected the art of art shows – it’s been raising six-figure sums from the annual Camberwell Art Show for the past 51 years.

Top earner was the 2004 show, with more than $200,000 into the charity coffers. This year’s show in July raised just over $100,000, similar to 2015.

It's a gala event for artists, with prize-money totaling $35,000 for the best three works.  “Over half a century, our art show’s raised more than $2.5 million,” says club president Nick Pane.

There’s no free lunch in this exercise. The massive art show involves hundreds of volunteer-days and full-time commitment by dozens of key workers as the deadlines nears.

The club has 65 members  and in total raises a massive $180,000 for charity each year.

It transforms our dreams into splendid realities… it is the most generous expression of Rotarian generosity - a generosity that not only brings benefits but also brings help and cooperation to solve the problems that affect mankind.
