OUR NEWEST MEMBER

WELCOME THERESE

Therese Robinson, inducted into the club 27th September.

NEXT MEETING - WEAR A HAT
NEXT WEEK IS ROTARY HEALTH'S

For us that means next Tuesday.

To raise funds for this Australian Rotary Health program, next Tuesday [4th October] members will be able to wear a hat to the meeting for the princely donation of $5.

If you prefer not to wear a hat a donation of $7 is suggested.

Rotary Clubs of Victoria have partnered with Australian Rotary Health in support of the ‘Lift The Lid’ campaign, which aims to raise funds to significantly increase research into mental illness prevention.
Each year approximately 1-in-5 Australians will experience a mental illness and in order to help future generations of young Australians, we need to look ahead through research and find out how we can prevent this type of illness occurring.

NEXT MEETING  GUEST SPEAKER

Stephen Read

"Landscape Design: Reflecting a Sense of Place and Purpose"

A garden is many things to many people: a sanctuary, a playground for young and old, a habitat that nurtures growth over time. It has the potential to offer space within our busy environment to relax, reflect, and enjoy.

Aligning this perspective with the specific needs of the client, the designer can ensure the rhythm of the garden will grow to match the heartbeat of its owner. The garden then becomes part of a holistic approach to living. Space for fine food, clean air, fresh water, and relationships with family and friends; all are woven comfortably into the design of a well-planned garden.

The home garden is for nurturing future explorers, scientists, artists, cooks and, of course, gardeners.

Stephen is a landscape designer who is passionate about all things design. He has a strong belief in the transformational nature of good design and its ability to maximise social and economic value.Over the past few years he has developed a unique and fresh approach when designing gardens. The fundamental difference is a collaborative process between client and designer.  Empathy for the location, architecture and those who use the garden are key influences, and the design is driven by what is needed.  Only then will the garden will work seamlessly - now and for years to come.

DO YOU KNOW SOMEONE WHO WANTS TO CHANGE THE WORLD?

Rotary is now accepting applications for the world competitive Rotary Peace Fellowships program. The application deadline for submissions through local rotary clubs in District 9800 is to the District Chair, Rob Helme, by May 15, 2017.

Never has there been such an obvious need for well-trained committed personnel to foster the cause of world peace. Rotary International has been committed to this program for 15 years and has trained over 1,000 graduates who work in the fields of peace, conflict resolution, human rights, international relations, public administration, sustainable development, public health or a related field. Up to 100 fellowships are awarded annually (fifty master's degree fellowships and fifty professional development fellowships) at Rotary Peace Centres in six prestigious universities around the world. Australia has an outstanding track record in supporting and mentoring successful applicants.
