WELCOME

At last weeks meeting President Justine had the pleasure of inducting two new members to Central Melbourne Rotary.

WELCOME TO JOHN [above] and CAMPBELL [below]

NEXT MEETING  - GUEST SPEAKER

JEFF MAYNARD  -  "THE ANZAC CAMERA"

Cameras were banned at the Western Front when the Anzacs arrived in 1916. Correspondent Charles Bean continually argued that Australia should have a dedicated photographer to records the Australians in action. Bean was eventually assigned an enigmatic Australian explorer, Sir Hubert Wilkins.

During two years at the Western Front, Wilkins produced the most detailed photographic record of the war in the world, which is now held at the Australian War Memorial.

Jeff Maynard has spent 18 years researching Sir Hubert Wilkins and has located his lost records in Washington, Michigan, Ohio and Arizona. In this talk, Jeff will speak about his ongoing search to find the Anzac records of Australia’s greatest war photographer, and speak about the material that has already been brought back to Australia and donated to the Australian War Memorial.

MICHAEL SELECTED TO LEAD NEXT 'GVE' TEAM

Looking for a Group Vocation Exchange leader for the visit to the Philippines, District 9800 found  that Michael Lapina was made to order.
'Our' Michael will lead four team members to the Philippines' District 3820 in February-March 2017. He was born in the Philippines, came to Australia at four, married Nina from the Philippines in 2000, and thanks to her, now is again fluent in Filipino's Tagalog language.

'GVE' young professionals will be selected based on what they can contribute in Basic Education & Literacy, Economic & Community Development, Disease Prevention & Treatment, Water & Sanitation, Maternal & Child Health and Peace & ConflictPrevention/Resolution.  "The members want to make long-lasting relationships to help develop projects to benefit both Districts," says Michael.

ECHUCA-MOAMA CLUB HITS TOWN

Our meeting this week was bolstered by sister club members Pres Geoff Tighe, PP Mike Stansbury and wife Lyn and PDG Allie Lyall and partner Julia Grace.

It was great to see the travellers who expressed their appreciation of our members efforts at their annual Steam Rally’s. Mike presented our Club with a carton of 2006 Cabernet Sauvignon from a local winery which will become a major prize in our forthcoming Paul Harris Breakfast.”

Home host members were Herb Greenwood, Alan Seale and Frank O’Brien.  A big thank-you to the trio for your family hosting.  It all adds up at the end of the day.
