NEXT MEETING - GUEST SPEAKER
Michael Kilgariff

"Australia’s National Freight Supply Chain Strategy"

The Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, has committed the Australian Government to developing a National Freight and Supply Chain Strategy in the 2016 Annual Infrastructure Statement to Parliament. In that speech he also committed the Government to building the inland rail from Melbourne to Brisbane.

Unlocking the agricultural and mining potential of Australia’s inland is a perennial commercial theme.  One of the modern solutions is the long-touted inland railway between Melbourne and Brisbane.  A project of this size could be equivalent to the Snowy Mountains Hydroelectric Scheme that generated so much economic growth for Australia in the mid-20th Century.

The Government will be undertaking a project to map nationally significant supply chains as part of a project to develop a National Freight and Supply Chain Strategy.  This project will give greater understanding of where product is moving and how it’s being moved.

Michael Kilgariff will discuss inland rail and the National Freight and Supply Chain Strategy.

Michael is CEO and Managing Director of the Australian Logistics Council.  He holds a degree in Economics from the Australian National University and is also a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses. Michael has a diverse background and leadership experience in industry, industry associations and government, at the national and state/territory level.

AFTER THE CONFERENCE

DG Neville's round up

The conference theme ‘Connecting Communities – Serving Humanity’ focused on social cohesion, inclusion and community resilience.

We know why these things are so fundamentally important to the wellbeing of our society, and we know that generations of Australians have worked hard over many years to build a reputation for being inclusive, welcoming people who give others a fair go and are generous in helping those less fortunate. If we are here to serve; and if Rotary is too continue to make a difference, then we need to find out the needs of our community. If we do, our projects will be interesting and people will be engaged and more will want to be part and remain part of what we do. Remember, "every Rotary project starts with one person’s idea!"

Thank you to Conference Chair, Kevin Love, our MC Koren Harvey, Artistic Director Michael Lapina, the Organising Committee, members and partners of Rotary Central Melbourne and Melbourne Park, plus two talented performers in Ian Hovey from Werribee and Peter Shepheard from Altona. You were all magnificent. The speakers and artists each made their contributions by expanding on the conference theme, and we all walked away with some ideas and work to do. Thank you to everyone who attended for supporting the future of Rotary.
