NEXT MEETING

This is a face-to-face meeting at the RACV Club.

If you would like to visit our meeting, you are welcome to join us at the Theatrette, Chancery Level of the RACV Club. There is no charge for attending the meeting.

If you would like a more general discussion about attending a Rotary meeting, please contact the club secretary at rotaryclubcentralmelbourne@gmail.com

The meeting will commence at 7:40am and conclude no later than 8:30. Members and guests are invited to stay for coffee or breakfast in the club Bistro following the meeting.
PRESIDENT'S ANNOUNCEMENTS
  • The Batman Cluster Club Presidents met with the Assistant Governor to discuss collaboration opportunities.

  • RACV confirmed that RCM is a valued customer following a frank conversation in relation to recent changes that they had made to our meeting arrangements.

  • Michelle asked the members present for any feedback so far in relation to the new meeting structure. The comments included: like the RACV theatrette (can we turn the screen lights down for presentations); happy with the $29 optional breakfast pricing; evening online meetings work well and add another dimension for participation.

GUEST SPEAKER - 5 SEPTEMBER
Our guest speaker for the Tuesday, 5 September meeting will be Jeffrey Pang on the topic 'Hearing and Brain Health'.

Hearing loss ranks as the #1 treatable risk factor for the prevention of dementia, yet Australians wait an average 10 years to address it. Learn how to address the risk and preserve your quality of life.

Jeffrey Pang is a Master of Audiology who graduated from the University of Melbourne, where he was conferred the Award for Academic Excellence for the best academic performance/engagement in his graduating cohort. Jeffrey works for NeuAudio Hearing & Brain Health, an independent Audiology clinic passionate about educating people on the link between untreated hearing loss and cognitive decline, which seems to be shockingly unknown in the wider community.

OUR SUPPORT FOR RIMERN

Since 2021, Rotary Central Melbourne has supported the Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network (RIMERN) by donating $1,000 towards operating expenses, members and friends regularly volunteering at the RIMERN warehouse and members and friends donating household goods.

As a result of the collective efforts of 16 Rotary clubs, RIMERN helped almost 800 people during 2022/23 to furnish social housing after those people experienced homelessness, domestic violence, incarceration and foreign conflict.

We would like to thank Annet Brouwer, Paul Fowler, Herb & Leoni Greenwood, Ignacio Inchausti, Rebecca John, Steve Turner, Rhys Williams and Zhang Yanpu for volunteering at the warehouse and Nicole Lebbos and Peter Duras donating goods to the warehouse so far this year.

We also thank in advance Alan Seale for the cutting boards and coffee tables that he has promised to make.

Our next working bee at the RIMERN warehouse is planned for Saturday 30th September.
