Kevin Love and Mary Voice were welcomed back.
Announcements;
- Roger Thornton reminded us of two upcoming events - the Changeover on July 1st and the VPLMP Graduation Breakfast on June 21st. Although it is pay on the day, bookings are still required for the VPLMP Breakfast.
- Frank O'Brien is really chuffed that 11 members and partners are attending the Echuca Club Steam Rally on the long weekend. He also noted the Echuca Changeover was on June 24 if anybody would like to join in.
The next DIK working bee is still on June 18.
- Peter Duras reported on the Youth Projects kitchen fit out at Hosier Lane where they are seeking tea towels - or used. They are still keen to collect blankets given the cold weather.
- President George continued to perfect his announcement technique with the news that Koren and David have added Olympia Francis to their family.
- George emphasised the importance of the next meeting which will feature Sarah Overton's induction, the vote on the club's new name and a further presentation on the club's membership strategy. He also passed on a request from a female post graduate student of the University of Wisconsin for accommodation for one semester of 13 weeks.
Directors Report – Fundraising, Greg Cuthbert.
In his usual highly professional manner, Greg illustrated the rationale behind the fundraising strategy he has developed and implemented over the last three years. The outcome is an emphasis on:
- "Owner owned and run events" which involve few club resources but generate reasonable reward and have a fellowship benefit and
- "Fundraising owned and run events" which involve many members and have substantial reward such as the Garden DesignFest.
Greg expressed his gratitude to all those you have supported him and soothed his jangled nerves at critical moments.
President George commended Greg on his considerable contribution in a function where the club has struggled in the past. Both Greg and George wished Warwick Cavell good luck as he takes over next year.
Guest Speaker - Jason Bosland
"SUPPRESSION ORDERS AND MEDIA FRUSTRATION"
 Jason is Deputy Director the Centre of Media and Communications Law at Melbourne University. He has a special interest in the application of suppression orders in the Victorian courts and the impact of the Open Courts Act passed two years ago.
Open court processes are a fundamental principle providing a degree of public scrutiny and education. The Media has traditionally been the most effective advocate for open courts.
As Jason pointed out, suppression orders run counter to this principle and should only be applied when there are reasonable grounds for believing publicity will endanger the court process, or the safety of victims or witnesses.
