NEXT MEETING

This is a fellowship breakfast at the RACV Club Bistro. It will be regarded as a normal club meeting, but without the formality of a weekly meeting and guest speaker.

If you would like a more general discussion about attending a Rotary meeting, please contact the club secretary at rotaryclubcentralmelbourne@gmail.com

The breakfast will commence at 8:00 am and will conclude no later than 9:30.

THANK YOU FROM SACRED HEART SECONDARY SCHOOL
We received a very nice thank you letter from the Principal of Sacred Heart School Fitzroy in relation to a Caprice distribution delivered 10 days ago (see attached). This school educates students from multicultural backgrounds whose families have very little and live in the Fitzroy High Rises.

RANA JANKOWSKI - MULTICULTURAL AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE HONOUR ROLL
Some news about one of our members, Rana Jankowski (Ebrahimi):

Rana was one of those recognised at the Victorian Government 2023 Multicultural Excellence Awards. Congratulations Rana!

Here is what the website states about the awardees:

The winners of the 22nd Multicultural Awards for excellence have now been announced. The Multicultural Awards for Excellence formally recognise people and organisations who have fostered cross-cultural understanding and supported those with migrant, refugee and asylum seeker backgrounds to fully participate in all aspects of Victorian life.

PENINSULA BBQ FLYER - YOU'RE INVITED!
THE CONFERENCE SHOWCASE - YOU'RE INVITED!
Before reading the flyer below, please note that spaces are limited to 35 stands so book your spots and ask your questions away as soon as possible.

SAVE THE DATE: FORMER AMBASSADOR TO US

As President of Rotary Melbourne, I am pleased to inform you that most recent former Australian Ambassador to the USA, The Hon Arthur Sinodinos AO, will be delivering the prestigious 2024 Angus Mitchell Oration. Given global flashpoints in Eastern Europe, the Middle East and Asia and the expertise of our speaker, the oration will be highly informative and topical.

In attendance will be leading members of our business, diplomatic, charitable and Rotary community.  The previous oration was delivered last year by former Prime Minister The Hon John Howard OM AC. The event was sold out well in advance.

Please save the date in your calendar as we expect this event will also sell out quickly. We expect booking to open on 24 January via our website.

I look forward to seeing you at the Angus Mitchell Oration.

Cheers,
Dr. Chris Sotiropoulos
President 2023-24

ANOTHER WAY TO SUPPORT RIMERN
How everyone in our Club & community can support RIMERN (without visiting the warehouse!)

Collect 10c refundable containers!

The Container Deposit Scheme (CDS-Vic) has three zones managed by three different operators, all with slightly different modus operandi, but RIMERN is registered as a charity partner with all three, so please check the map below or website to see which zone you’re in and follow these steps to have all the 10c refunds applied to RIMERN so that we can buy hard to get essentials like kettles, toasters, vacuum cleaners, microwaves, doonas & pillows.

Most of the municipalities that RIMERN supports are in the NORTH zone (managed by Visy) and some of our Clubs & support areas are EAST (managed by Return-It), Merri-bek (where our East Brunswick warehouse is located) is WEST (managed by Tomra).

Found your zone? Please download their App (eg. CDS-Vic WEST, CDS-Vic NORTH or CDS-Vic EAST) onto your phone and set up your personal account (it’s easy!)
Next, select DONATE then find your charity partner (type in Rotary Inner Melbourne Emergency Relief Network) in the search bar & lock us in. The pictures on the next page are from the north zone VISY app but all 3 are similar.

Now whenever you take your returns to either a RVM (reverse vending machine – they scan the barcodes on each 10c container and reject any with a dent or squash), an OTC (over the counter shop or petrol station) or depot (that identify barcodes by camera and accept even the dented ones…. An operator assists and it’s very easy!) you scan your personal barcode and automatically the return credits fly into the RIMERN bank account!

If you don’t go through many collectable water, beer or soft drink bottles or cans (unfortunately wine & juice bottles don’t make the cut) then please nominate someone from the Club to be the ‘RIMERN Bottle-O’ and bring your bags of empties to meetings or arrange for pick up so that the Bottle-O can take bulk quantities for cash conversion. Which Club will raise the most this way?

There are many community supporters who love what RIMERN does and who would also like to help, please recruit local pubs & cafes, involve friends and neighbours, the 10c refunds add up fast and some charities are already making hundreds of dollars a week by clever collecting!

The RIMERN barcode & charity number (that works at some collection places without you having to have set up a personal account) is below, happy collecting!
