President Neville exchanged Rotary banners with Drew and Cindie then Utam. Announcements Rob Hines informed members of his recent visit with Elias Lebbos and DG Bronwyn Stephens to Laos to open the local school project paid for by our club. Mary Voice informed everyone of the social 9 hole golf, putting and chipping competition to be held at Ivanhoe Golf Course on 29 March 2019. All proceeds to be donated to End Trachoma Alison Chan reminded people of the Christmas Hampers. Rebecca John spoke about the club having a nominee for the Shine On Awards Frank O'Brien reminded people of the upcoming sausage sizzles and the need for volunteers. Tom Callander advised the recipient of the Silk Miller Award. Herb Greenwood reminded people about Opera on the Yarra on Saturday 2nd March 2019.
Probus Talk Jen and David updated the club on the Melbourne Sunrise Probus Club, a club sponsored by Rotary Central Melbourne. Although not all Probus clubs are doing so well, the Melbourne Sunrise Probus Club currently has 119 members with three on the waiting list. The maximum membership, under their constitution, is 120. The club is doing well and maintains its membership around the 120 mark. It is a club with a wide range of activities. New Member Induction – Sean Car President Neville inducted Sean Car as a member of Rotary Central Melbourne Docklands Branch. Guest Speaker: Warren Sparrow (Angel Flights) Warren is a retired air traffic controller (Moorabbin Airport) and now volunteers his time to Angel Flights as an ‘earth angel’. He drives patients and their families between airports and their appointments. Warren outlined the amazing service provided by Angel Flight with over 23,000 missions in 15 years. Flights are free and funding is by way of Corporate Sponsorship, with 85% of all funds raised going to provide the service. Warren outlined some of the personal stories of the people he has assisted over his ten years of volunteering. An amazing service. President Neville provided an update on Kevin Walklate’s health then thanked our visitors for joining the meeting before closing the meeting by encouraging us to inspire others to service beyond self. |
