Rotary in India and the Polio Plus Project

The impact the Rotary movement has had in India and the good work that is being done in the most remote communities by Rotarians. A background about R District 3291 and some of the projects that are underway. Also and update on the Polio Plus Project In India.

Uttam joined Rotary Club of Rabindra Sarobar Calcutta in 1993 as the charter secretary. He served the club in various positions and became President in the Rotary year 1997-98. He also served the Rotary District as Chairman during 1999-00, 2001-01, 2001-02 and 2006-07 and served as the District Secretary in the Rotary years 2002-03 and 2004-05. Uttam also served the District as Assistant Governor in the year 2003-04 and 2007-08 in addition to being the GSR in 2003-04 and the-Secretary General in 2009-10. Uttam was a District Governor of RID 3291 in 2012-13.

He was instrumental in holding almost all the District Conferences since 1997-98 as well as organizing the event during the visit of RIPE Richard King in 2001 and of RIP Bill Boyd in Kolkata.

Uttam is a PHF and Life Member of the Four Way Test Association of India. He is a member of Bengal National Chamber of Commerce and Industries and Eastern Chamber of Commerce in addition to Calcutta Rowing Club and Indian Life Saving Society. He has received the Four Avenues of Service Citation for Individual Rotarians in the Rotary year 2003-04.

He is blessed with a son Suvam and a daughter Puja who now live in Melbourne.

Uttam an ever-smiling personality remains cool despite his hectic schedule, is sincere to Rotary activities and is always available for a chat.
