DONATIONS IN KIND (DIK) – UPDATE
Reporter : Frank O’Brien
The Good News: Ten RCM volunteers including 2 Partners (all pictured) attended DIK in West Footscray on Thursday 3 April 2025 (our first of 2 for the year). We spent the morning charged with just one role…unpacking scores of cartons of donated new clothing, sorting into specific categories, labelling and restacking on pallets in readiness for containerisation and shipping to overseas countries. Our help was particularly welcome as this major storage area has been inundated with clothing which needs to be moved to make way for another major donation. Our “Supervisor”, Mr Long, a veteran of 15 years at DIK, was most grateful for our help.
The Bad News: Our Club supports DIK financially by paying/sharing the Rent due with about 20 other Rotary Clubs to the tune of $3500 pa. DIK has recently been advised that their annual rent must rise by over 50% to mainly cover the increasing Land Tax imposed by our State Govt. DIK is currently considering its options.
