Reporter notes 26th July 2022
President Rohan Williams – Welcome to country. Welcome guests.
Chair – Frank O’brien proposed a toast to Rotary International.
Member Announcements:
- Kevin Love: Informed the club that the tree planting weekend at Phillip Island was a success and 2000 trees were funded. Thanked members who joined the effort. Frank thanked Kevin for feeding the hungry masses on the day.
- Kevin informed that land care was grateful for the caravan RCM had donated a few years back. Kevin proposed to make the tree planting weekend a tradition at the club.
Frank introduced Amritpal Singh, Past Assistant District Governor, Past President and now Youth Service Chair for Rotary Brighton North.
Amrit joined us from Malaysia where he is visiting family. It was a very early start for him, but he presented on the important topic of Regionalisation of Zone 8 (Australia, New Zealand and Pacific Islands). This September, Clubs are required to vote on whether to proceed along the path of exploring this process. In essence this will, over time, mean that the 21 Districts in Australia are re-organised into more functional regions. Importantly Rotary in Australia will be able to speak with one voice to Governments and potential supporters. Amritpal Singh will introduce us to the concept and the way forward.

Members had lots of questions around why we are undertaking this process and wanted to better understand how the process is going to resolve the challenges Rotary is facing around engagement, membership, etc.
Members were also interested in how Rotary clusters were going to function going forward.
Amrit responded by saying that most of the details are still being worked through and members were encouraged to send through questions and suggestions through the club and district leadership teams.
Rohan gave an update on the last Board Meeting and the club budgeting process. Encouraged members to donate and volunteer at the Rimon warehouse.
Announced that the next meeting on 2nd Aug was going to be a face to face meeting at RACV, which would be a club forum where club service directors are going to present their plans for the upcoming Rotary year.
