Chair Tom Callander and President Rhys Williams opened the meeting with the traditional toast to Rotary International, acknowledgement of country and traditional owners of the many lands from which guests were currently zooming in from.
Guest Speaker: Jo Garrety – Rotary Central Melbourne – Member Profession Presentation
Jo is a proud member of Rotary Central Melbourne and was introduced as the of Managing Director of SALT3, Australia’s leading traffic, waste & environmental sustainability consultancy, which coincidentally just celebrated its 10th birthday.
Backed by a Bachelor of Civil Engineering and MBA, Jo has 23 years of experience in the field. SALT3 was born from her passion about engineering, helping others, making positive change, leadership, inspiring people and communities. Following stints in small and large firms, the most recent having 6,000 employees, Jo now leads SALT3, a progressive and nimble team of 17 with diverse skills in engineering and science. Interestingly the only single team member Jo highlighted was her Mum, Michelle, managing the accounts.
The vision is to be recognised by clients as the transportation, waste management and environment engineering professionals of choice. This certainly seems to be succeeding with SALT3 now working with all layers of government and the private sector in providing services with contracts across many areas of Australia.
Jo gave a fascinating array of former and current projects involving investigations, road safety audits, reports and problem solving. Of particular interest was the way in which SALT3 is engaged in meeting the requirements of ‘Plan Victoria’ which generated many questions from members. Jo’s presentation is available for anyone interested. Please contact Reporter, Nev2, at neville.taylor5@bigpond.com.
