Our club has combined with RC's of Kew and Brighton North to firstly, raise much needed funds for selected charities and secondly, to encourage creative, bold, innovative, practical and responsible gardening in our home garden.
This year our club will be manning the four large scale gardens open for the first time in the Euroa area on SUNDAY 16th Nov. between 10am and 5pm.
ORDERS FOR LENTARA SPICE SETS BY 2nd DECEMBER PLEASE.
As in past years we have a Christmas Hamper project, to provide useful food items to people in our community less fortunate than ourselves.
The project supports two organisations;
Steps Outreach Programme, that works with young homeless people in the city.
Lentara UnitingCare Asylum Seeker Project, caring for 'approved' asylum seekers restricted from earning by legislation.
Each of these organisations works with different sections of our community and if we are to provide real support it is important that the contents of our hampers are appropriate. The hampers are therefore separated into two groups, RED for Steps Outreach Programme and GREEN for Lentara Asylum Seeker Project.
A list of suggested contents for the hampers has been drawn up to make life easier. CLICK HERE to view.
The LENTARA hamper includes many foods not easily obtained in appropriate portions and, once again, Margaret Thomas has offered to buy in bulk and break down into better sized packs. CLICK HERE to view content of pack.
Recognising exceptional service by a person with disabilities.
The club very keen to be part of this year’s Rotary "SHINE ON" Awards. This is an outstanding annual Australia-wide Rotary award recognising exceptional service to others by people with disabilities. Clubs may nominate people who meet the criteria and all nominees will receive recognition with a Certificate of Commendation.
Guidelines for Nomination
Eligible Nominees are people who are actively involved in community service for the benefit of others and have demonstrated a significant level of achievement whilst managing a specific medical disorder/disability.
Nominations must be endorsed by a Rotary Club.
If you know of a potential candidate Peter Duras would like to hear from you [tel.0413 599121]. Please keep an eye/ear open and consider possible nominations. Two categories: under and over 25 years. Nominations should be made as soon as possible and by end of November at latest.
Peter will have nomination forms available at our Tuesday meetings.
The Annual General Meeting of the Rotary Club Central Melbourne-Sunrise will be held at the club meeting on November 25, 2014.
Business will include acceptance of Financial Statements for 2013-14, and voting on nominations for the Board for 2014-15. The Agenda and particulars will be sent to members shortly.
Members including non-board members are welcome to nominate for the 2014-15 board. They are also welcome to propose motions for the AGM.
All such proposals should be lodged with the Secretary no later than 3 November 2014.
A good turnout of members, partners, guests and one lost Rotarian (one week early for the Paul Harris breakfast) enjoyed an excellent breakfast and a wide range of speakers and the unique style of chairman of the day Kevin Walklate.
Invited visitors were Anne Mitchell from Steps Ministry and Suresh Ramachandraiah from Lentara, the beneficiaries of our Christmas Hamper project. Both gave short presentations and let us know how much the Hampers are appreciated by the people they work with. It was very clear that there are many 'out there' who have a very hard row to hoe and the work of Steps and Lentara fills a huge void in social welfare in the city. The dedication evidenced by Anne and Suresh is truly Service Above Self.

GUEST SPEAKER
Our guest speaker was Acting Inspector Dr Cath. Wilkins who spoke about "Fitness to Drive" and how the Road Policing Strategy Division is currently looking at the area of Fitness to Drive, with the aim of enhancing education and communication in this area and preventing issues arising in the first instance.
Cath has been a police officer for 23 years, primarily working in strategic, training, policy and project management areas. The role of this division is to support the Assistant Commissioner for Road Policing in reducing road trauma and improving the safety of Victorian roads. The division works closely with Vic Roads, the Department of Justice and the Transport Accident Commission.
A series of probing members questions were answered with great aplomb by Dr Cath and the meeting was closed by President Roy.
