Sister Clubs are a small but important part of our club. The two existing Sister Clubs of Rotary Central Melbourne have regular contact, covering anniversaries and events and from time to time helping with advice, experience and even financial assistance.

A new Sister Club Relationship

Rotary Central Melbourne, in association with the RC Rabindra Sarobar and RC Calcutta Metropolitan of District 3291 successfully completed a project to extend financial support to 25 underprivileged boys and girls who had passed their school leaving exams under the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education but were unable to pursue further studies as their parents had criminal backgrounds and they did not have the financial means to support further studies. The funds raised by Rotary Central Melbourne, $2,500, were complemented by a District 9800 grant of $750.

The opportunity to partner with the Rotary Club of Rabindra Sarobar was brought to our attention by new member, Suvam Ganguli. Suvam’s father Uttam is a past president of that club and a past District Governor. When Uttam visited our club in February 2018 we formally signed the Sister Club agreement. A group of our members travelled to India in 2019 to visit Rotary projects there and to cement this new relationship.

Our existing Sister Clubs are:

Rotary Club of Osaka –Midosuji  Hommachi. This club was formed by the merger of Osaka Midosuji and Osaka Hommachi Clubs.  We have been friends of Osaka Hommachi Club for many years and are very happy to remain associated with this bigger entity.

Rotary Club of Echuca Moama (REM)

Our Club is regularly well represented at the REM’s running of its Annual Steam Rally.

Our usual assistance is scones, serving billy tea and coffee, serving soups, and serving stew and damper.

We have been progressing an opportunity to join with REM in developing a program to assist the education of indigenous youth in the area and this development project is making good progress.
