GUEST SPEAKER - 10 SEPTEMBER 2024

Tim Williams: The Life of The Working Screenwriter

Tim Williams takes you through the life of a working screenwriter in television – how he broke into the business, how he navigates different jobs and how he looks for new opportunities. Tim will share his experiences writing for shows such as The Heights and Spooky Files and take you into the ‘writer’s room’, talking about how shows go from the whiteboard to your TV screen.

Tim Williams is a Melbourne-based screenwriter who has written for series such as The Heights (ABC) and Spooky Files (ABC.) Tim began his career working in scripted development at Matchbox Pictures where he made contributions to series such as The Family Law (SBS), Wanted (Seven), Seven Types of Ambiguity (ABC), Mustangs F.C. (ABC) and Hungry Ghosts (SBS.)

Tim currently develops his own screen projects and works in a freelance capacity. He has worked with companies such as Fremantlemedia, Guesswork Television and Matchbox Pictures. He is also an external assessor for Screen Australia, VicScreen, Screen Queensland and Screen Tasmania. Tim is also a script tutor and lecturer at the Victorian College of the Arts as part of the MA and BA Screenwriting courses.

ROTARY BITES #9
Last week, we were supposed to have a playwright as our guest speaker, who would share how his writing skills successfully led to a turning point in his career. In September, we’ll hear from two more professionals about the importance of language skills in achieving personal goals.

Why three writers in one month? Starting this month, we’re aligning our speaker choices with the monthly Rotary themes as much as possible: September is ‘Education and Literacy’ month. This way, we cover all the Rotary focus areas in a structured manner while making inspired choices.

Of course, we’ll keep things flexible, making sure there’s plenty of room for club program-related topics and speakers. Sarah, Justine and Annet are reaching out to the club directors for this, but all suggestions are welcome and will definitely be considered!

RCM CONTRIBUTION TO VNF BUILD A FUTURE PROGRAM

Ms Puja Ganguli provided an introduction to creative problem solving.

Please click this link https://vietnamfoundation.org.au/category/updates/ to (the first three) articles which report on VNF’s Build a Future Program’s summer camps which ISC put $4K into the previous Rotary year and which occurred in July 2024. I think that these cover the use of the donation adequately. Our contribution of $4K made a contribution to the general expenditure for the camps- travel, accommodation and food, hotel hire, consumables, speakers costs. The full cost was a little over $10K. Rhys Williams and Puja Ganguli attended and participated in the workshops. Puja ran a lively, interactive session on creative problem solving which introduced students to innovation and entrepreneurship.

As the program expands organisers will be looking to members for mentoring employability skills and providing English conversational practice.

For further information people can contact Pres. Rhys.
